Happy Birthday Jesus Festival: Celebrating Christ and Bringing Hope to Vulnerable Families
ZOE Mexico is flourishing in its mission to champion the gospel and safeguard vulnerable children. This year, their work has touched countless lives, culminating in an extraordinary event that drew over 1,000 people of all ages—children, youth, adults, and grandparents—to celebrate the birth of Jesus through creative arts, music, and the powerful voices of Christian artists. The Christmas Festival, lovingly titled “Happy Birthday Jesus,” was a radiant beacon of hope and joy in southern Mexico.
This December, the festival unfolded in Oaxaca and Puebla, two regions with distinct challenges and opportunities. Oaxaca, where ZOE Mexico is based, stands at a critical intersection for human trafficking, serving as a source, transit, and destination for this devastating crime. Yet, amid these shadows, light broke through.
“With the participation of churches from all denominations and hundreds of volunteers, we reached people who have never heard of Jesus and who perhaps would not dare to approach a church, but would go to a public square,” shared Mariela Ambrosio, ZOE Mexico Director.
In Mexico, where the evangelical population is less than 10%, many grow up in Catholicism without a deep, personal connection to Jesus. But this festival brought something transformative. “Children, youth, adults, and grandparents laughed, sang, danced, and celebrated Jesus with their families and friends as they listened attentively to the preaching of the gospel.” Mariela continued.
This moment was especially significant in a country with the largest number of indigenous communities in Latin America and one of the highest rates of human trafficking worldwide. ZOE Mexico stands boldly in this space, not only sharing the message of Jesus but equipping families with critical tools to protect their children.
Throughout the year, through workshops and outreach, the ZOE Mexico team empowers parents and caregivers with knowledge about preventing child sexual abuse, identifying the tactics of traffickers, and navigating the hidden dangers of the internet. Every interaction is a reminder of Jesus’ profound care for children: “Whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me.” (Matthew 18:5)
Thanks to you, ZOE works to bring Christ’s love into the lives of families and children who need it most. The festival wasn’t just a celebration; it was a declaration of hope. Communities were strengthened and the light of the gospel shone brightly in a place often marked by darkness. Interested in supporting ZOE Mexico? Click here to learn more.
