Showing Up for the One

Some of the most meaningful moments in ZOE’s work happen when someone simply says, “I’m ready for help.”  That moment may come after a long and difficult journey. For those who have experienced exploitation, instability, unhealthy relationships, or other challenges, moving toward healing is rarely a straight path. There may be steps forward, setbacks, and moments when another opportunity to begin again is needed.

When that moment comes, we want to be ready to say yes.

Because of the generosity of those who support this work, ZOE’s East Coast team is able to respond to needs that do not fit neatly into a program or measurable outcome. Sometimes that means giving extra time. Sometimes it means meeting practical needs. And sometimes it simply means going a little farther to remind someone that she has not been forgotten.

Recently, our team had one of those opportunities.

Someone our advocates have been walking alongside was taking an important step toward healing. During a difficult season, our team was able to gather a few personal belongings and provide some simple, practical items that could bring comfort and encouragement along the way.

Then, an advocate made the journey to personally deliver them.

On paper, a moment like this may not seem remarkable. There is no easy way to measure its impact.

But relationships are not measured that way.

For someone who has experienced instability or relationships where care has often come with conditions, simply showing up can communicate something powerful:

You matter. You are remembered. You are worth showing up for. And we are still here.

This is one of the beautiful parts of advocacy. Our advocates have the opportunity to build relationships that extend beyond a single moment, remaining a steady presence through setbacks, courageous decisions, and new beginnings.

It is also a reflection of the heart of the Father, the One who welcomes us home and pursues the one who has wandered. His love is extravagant, persistent, and given freely.

Through the generosity of those who make this work possible, ZOE has the privilege of reflecting a small glimpse of that love by responding when opportunities arise, caring for the needs in front of us, and loving relentlessly, one person at a time.
