The Justice Walk 2024: A Victory For Hope, Generosity, and Faith in Australia

On Saturday, November 16, 2024, volunteers, partners, and supporters of all ages gathered at Green Point, Brighton in Australia to walk 8 kilometers (about 4.97 miles and approximately two hours) to stand against child trafficking and exploitation asking the question, if not us–then who? The walk aimed to raise funds to help develop and launch a new restorative care model for vulnerable children in Australia, designed to provide them with the stability and care they need.

What a moment it was. The Justice Walk 2024 in Melbourne raised an incredible $82,153.30 — and thanks to a truly generous donor who dollar-matched, this total DOUBLED, bringing the grand total to a staggering $164,306.60! The journey began a few months ago when a dear friend called the ZOE Australia team and said, “It’s time. Let’s do a walk in Melbourne.” This friend had seen the REVIVE and ZOE walks in Sydney, and their boldness and faith ignited something in us. The team felt stirred and knew it was time to take action. But, they also knew that as a small team, it was going to be a huge undertaking, and it was.

“From the very beginning, our good friends at the Payton Foundation stepped up, offering their support and encouragement,” shared the ZOE Team. “Additionally, we had walking marshals to guide the way, checkpoint teams ensuring everything ran smoothly, and a fantastic crew running the BBQ to fuel the walkers. And, of course, who could forget the gelato from Cups n Cones that brought a sweet touch to the event? As the day drew near, something incredible happened: the reach of the event expanded further. People from all over Australia (and even beyond) began contributing — giving generously to take a stand for justice in Australia. The outpouring of support has been nothing short of miraculous, and we are in awe of God’s provision and the collective heart for justice that was on display. To say “thank you” feels inadequate in a moment like this, but thank you to every volunteer, every donor, and every heart that joined us.”

This total is more than just a number; it represents the compassion and commitment of people who refuse to stand by while injustice prevails. It’s a testament to the power of community, of faith in action. “We are overwhelmed by the generosity of each person who gave, volunteered, or prayed. You’ve made this possible.

As our team reflects on this incredible milestone, I’m reminded of the words in Isaiah 1:17: ‘Learn to do right; seek justice. Defend the oppressed. Take up the cause of the fatherless; plead the case of the widow.’ This is exactly what we have done. Together, we’ve stood up for what is right, seeking justice and defending those who are often overlooked.”
