ZOE Japan & ZOE Thailand: When Music Carries The Message
Throughout history, music has carried meaning in ways that spoken language alone often cannot. In What the Moon Saw (1840), Hans Christian Andersen wrote, “Where words fail, sounds can often speak, ” capturing a truth that continues to resonate across cultures and generations. Music has the unique ability to break down barriers and speak directly to the heart, reaching people who may find it hard to listen to sermons, tired of explanations, or simply unable to put their own pain or hope into words.
The use of music to communicate truth, faith, and emotion is as old as humanity itself. Long before stories were written, they were sung. Across time and tradition, music has been a means to worship, to grieve, to celebrate, and to heal.
This is especially true in the context of the gospel, with music being tied directly into the ancient worship rituals of the Israelites and early Christians. The songs sung told of hope, restoration, and redemption. For survivors of exploitation and trauma, music can offer a gentle entry point into healing, providing space for reflection, safety, and the rediscovery of dignity when words are overwhelming or they just aren ‘t enough.
In November, this vision took a new step forward with the launch of The Good News Worship channel on YouTube. Created as a way to share the gospel through music with a broader audience, the channel seeks to meet people where they are and invite them into a meaningful encounter with truth and hope. These videos are designed to show that worship can happen anytime, anywhere, not just in a church setting.
We are so grateful for the support of our ZOE Thailand media team, who produced the videos in Thailand with vocalists from Japan! This was a great trial project for collaboration between our two countries on major media projects, and we are excited about the possibility to do more projects together in the future.
Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth; break forth into joyous song and sing praises!” Psalm 98:4 (ESV)
